Casa 00
Casa 00 is a beachfront lot property located between Olbia and Golfo Aranci. This terraced house on two floors is part of a building complex built in the 1970s. The original construction system of the house included a frame structure, with reinforced concrete beams and pillars, and an infill wall. The foundations were laid directly on the ground and the screed was non-existing. These outdated construction choices, combined with the extreme proximity to the sea, have caused substantial damage to the building over time. The decisions for the renovation of the space have therefore taken these critical issues into account. The clients’ priorities mainly concerned the house’s energy efficiency as it had to be habitable all year round.  The renovation project involved an in-depth structural reconstruction, a general thermal enhancement and the rationalization of the living spaces, to keep the building up to date. After having renovated the concrete structure, the beams and the pillars, a modern screed and an internal coat were created to thermally insulate the house. The large window on the outdoor patio has been further expanded to take full advantage of both the natural light, which fully illuminates the living area, and the seaside view, making the modern kitchen with a peninsula more comfortable. The arrangement of the built-in sofas creates two distinct conversation areas, characterized by design elements inspired by Sardinian customs and the extraordinary nature of the island. The absolute protagonists of the space are therefore a hand-embroidered carpet, decorated with the motifs of the Sardinian artisan tradition and a myrtle plant, symbol of the Mediterranean scrub and Sardinia’s flora.  The design of the house is inspired in every aspect by the typical features of the area as well as Sardinia’s great architectural tradition of the 1970s. Architects such as Michele Busiri Vici, Jacques Couelle and Alberto Ponis have shaped and popularized Costa Smeralda and Costa Paradiso. They  established unique buildings there in close dialogue with the natural surroundings. Casa 00 combines the characteristics of the Mediterranean style with the architectural ideas of the 70s, blending historical suggestions and more modern design reinterpretations. The finishing touches and stylistic choices are an integral part of the project, thanks to the enthusiasm of the clients who let themselves be guided in every decision. Thus typical Sardinian materials, such as Orosei marble and worked wood, are enhanced by more contemporary design elements, such as the Super Inox copper taps and Marazzi tiles. The curved lines of the brick walls and sofas are a tribute to the style of Busiri Vici and the Costa Smeralda, while the large-format tiles give a unique appearance to the flooring, recalling the color of the sand and the suggestions of the warm earth tones.
In conclusion the project was designed to blend traditional elements and innovative features with the unitary identity of the housing complex of terraced buildings.
